No panic for Vishuis
The raw talent of the FNB Shimlas Young Guns squad outplayed the Steinhoff Vishuis Koshuis team at the University of the Free State on Tuesday night.
This warm-up match between the Kovsies Under-20 team and their university's Steinhoff Koshuis Championships representative was played in four chukkas.
No points were scored in the first twenty minutes but the second chukka saw the Young Guns score twice. Both sides crossed the whitewash in the third chukka but only the youngsters got a try in the fourth.
Vishuis did not treat this match as a warm-up match, but rather saw it as their team 'try-outs' in what was their first proper outing of 2012.
"We have heart, all of our guys," said Vishuis captain William Clift, "(and) this was the first time we took the field with some sort of a squad this year.
"That said," he added, "we've got some pretty impressive first years, so it augurs well."
Vishuis will now be able to determine a definite team structure for their 2012 Steinhof Koshuis Championships campaign.
They still have ample time to prepare a squad before they start their campaign on February 20 against Steinhoff Dagbreek (from Stellenbosch) in Potchefstroom.
