Patria declare season open

The 2012 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships pre-season roadshow took sponsors, Steinhoff, to defending champions, Patria, and the Men from NWU-Pukke welcomed Ajee Valentine and his team with open arms.

Valentine, the Marketing and Brand Manager of Steinhoff Africa, visited all eight Koshuisrugby universities (the same eight who play in the Varsity Cup) ahead of the 2012 season and he was greeted by over 200 students during his visit in Potchefstroom.

In fact, every single member of the Patria residence was in attendance (all 242 of them), along with dancing girls during a great Koshuis Launch which lasted for one and a half hours.

"Just to see the passion of Patria was worth all the effort from our side," commented Valentine, who has just completed his nationwide Koshuis Roadshow.

"The loyalty, passion and camaraderie I saw at the launch is the same ethos which our brand, Steinhoff, tries to live by every single day.

"It was great to see the enjoyment of the whole residence and it's amazing how all 242 members of the Patria res seemed to know every single player - be it his nickname or what he studies."

Varsity Cup Manging Director Duitser Bosman was also chuffed with the turn-out in his home town and he commented: "Steinhoff are not only a sponsor but they are directly investing time intellectual capital and money into (Steinhoff) Koshuisrugby, and making this experience, for the students, that much more special."

Bosman made a speech, as did 'Koshuisvader' James Stoffberg, the Rector of the NWU-Pukke campus (Prof. Herman van Schalkwyk) and Valentine (as the sponsor's representative.

The 2012 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships kicks-off on Monday (February 13), but Steinhoff Patria's first fixture will take place on Monday, March 5 only - when they travel down to Cape Town to take on the Steinhoff Cobras.

Patria beat Steinhoff Simonsberg (Maties) by 21-0 in last year's Koshuisrugby Final in Pretoria, that after going through the league phase unbeaten and beating the Steinhoff Tornadoes (from UCT) by 20-6 in the semifinals.
