FNB NMMU opened their 2012 Super League Grand Challenge campaign with their first match against Crusaders Rugby Club. The Madibaz beat the Crusaders, who are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year, by 90 points to 17.

The FNB Madibaz ended their best-ever Varsity Cup season in fifth position on the log. They also produced a fair sprinkling of star players in the process, like backline ace Carl van Niekerk.

Golf Day:
NMMU will host an alumni Golf Day on the 27 February 2012 at Humewood Golf Club. The visiting team will have up to 16 of their own alumni joining in the day, which will be a "better ball match play" competition.
