Full schedule for Tuks
Last year's Varsity Cup runners-up, FNB Tuks, won't settle for anything less than a winners' medal this time round - after suffering heartbreak in their 2011 final defeat to UCT.
Coach Nollis Marais and his assistants Ricardo Laubscher and Bart Schoeman have been whipping the team into shape in the build-up to their assault on the 2012 FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International.
Coaches Marais and Laubscher are on loan from the Bulls for the duration of the competition, while new acquisition - forwards coach Schoeman - will take over as head coach at the completion of the Varsity Cup.
Team manager Morris Gilbert confirmed to varsitycup.co.za that Tuks were planning to hit the ground running and have been hard at working on the training field since the turn of the year.
"We are going all out this season and have been training every day except for Sundays," Gilbert said.
"We don't want to be on the losing end of the final this time, so we are doing everything we can to be competently prepared."
The talented young side that has close ties to the Bulls have set themselves a gruelling task ahead of the competition, with three back-to-back warm-up fixtures to get the troops battle hardened.
A clash with FNB Wits at home, followed by a trip to Bloemfontein to face last season's Varsity Shield winners, FNB CUT, will be not easy task.
Tuks will finish off their preparations against Carlon League outfit, the Naka Bulle, whilst their second team will be up against Tuks' Young Guns side.
FNB Tuks' pre-season fixtures:
v Wits: Saturday, January 14
v CUT: Friday, January 20
v Naka Bulle: Saturday, January 28
