Vishuis edge past Dagbreek
Steinhoff Vishuis were able to cause an upset by narrowly edging Steinhoff Dagbreek 15-14 in their Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships meeting in Stellenbosch on Monday.
Vishuis travelled to Stellenbosch from Bloemfontein full of confidence and the two sides were evenly-matched in the first half going into the break locked at 5-5.
Dagbreek opened the scoring in the second half with a try through scrumhalf Wimpie Louw and a long-range penalty by Deon Lourens.
However, Vishuis produced the moment of the match when right-wing Hanru Louw charged down the touchline and drew three defenders before throwing an inside pass to Adriaan Fransman who crossed the line for a spectacular try.
Dagbreek lock Marius Reitz went off with what looked like broken leg after an ugly collision, which spurred his team on and a penalty from Renier de Villiers gave them a one-point lead.
But Vishuis had the last laugh with a penalty four minutes from time by Louw, which gave the Bloemfontein side a one-point victory in this Penny Pinchers Pool clash.
