Nortier gets Pukke flyhalf nod
Newbie Gerhard Nortier has been named at flyhalf for the FNB NWU-Pukke, when the Men from Potchefstroom travel to Port Elizabeth get their 2012 Varsity Cup campaign underway against FNB NMMU.
With Nortier in the No.10 shirt, starting scrumhalf Tiaan Dorfling will provide back-up for the NWU-Pukke in the crucial flyhalf position.
"Gerhad is a reliable goalkicker with a prodigious left boot and he gives us that something different on attack," explained Pukke coach Hannes Esterhuizen.
Whilst Nortier is a debutant at this level, he will have support all around him - especially from inside centre and captain Joubert Engelbrecht, as well as his livewire No.9, Dorfling.
Another new face in the team is that of blindside flanker Ernie Strydom whose sublime performances of late have put him ahead of the more experienced Siya Mdaka in the loose forward pecking order.
Spanner Pretorius (eighthman) and Philip de Wet (No.6) will combined with the hard-working Strydom (No.7) in yet another impressive-looking back in this competition.
