Tornadoes guts it out

The Steinhoff Tornadoes will defend their Steinhoff Koshuis title in next week's finals day at the Green Mile - that after claiming a 26-7 win over Steinhoff MOB in their A League semifinal clash on Wednesday night.

The Nadoes didn't have it all their way in last night's match, experience and patience was key to their success at Groote Schuur. They will, of course, now meet long-time rivals, the Steinhoff Cobras, in next week's final.

A mouth-watering fixture lived up to its standards, as both MOB and Nadoes had the quality to make it through to the final to face Cobras.

The match started of as a real tight affair as there was no score on the board for at least 15 minutes if not more, as MOB kept the Nadoes at bay. Handling errors from both teams slowed the game down, however; perhaps the players were too keen to impress?

The first points of the night came from the Nadoes as they caught the MOB defence napping and broke down the left-hand side to score under the poles. The second try came in the same way, but this time from the right as the Tornadoes went into the half-time break with a 14-point lead.

The second half was almost has similar to the first but this time with MOB getting themselves on the scoreboard and closing the game. The Nadoes, however, stepped their foot on the gas and scored straight after that.

Their final try came in the last minute of the match as they found another way past the MOB defence. The match ended with a Nadoes win but credit must go to MOB as both teams did exceptionally well on the evening.

* Meanwhile, the Steinhoff Spanners grabbed a 21-14 win over Steinhoff Ubumbo.

Spanners will now face up to Steinhoff Clarendon in next Wednesday's fifth/sixth-place play-off.

Wednesday night's results:
Steinhoff Nadoes 26 Steinhoff MOB 7
Steinhoff Spanners 21 Steinhoff Ubumbo 14
