Proud UJ man won't jump ship
Sport is part of our culture and we are fortunate enough to get the best coverage through the different mediums; from press conferences, to training sessions and the writing of previews, reviews and reports. For Brenden Nel, it's all in a day's work.

Nel (pictured alongside Paul Treu) graduated from Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg), with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and also obtained a BA in Communications.
Rugby and writing were always his first love but injury at a young age meant the field was not going to be where he would spend his days... well, not in boots anyway!
Today Nel is an authority in rugby.
It all started at HeRaut - RAU's campus newspaper - which was later followed with a local newspaper giving him the opportunity to cover the All Blacks tour in the mid-1990s, which resulted in ten years of service at Pretoria News.
Brenden, who these days serves as supersport.com's rugby editor, believes that the Varsity Cup's standing has even surpassed that of the Vodacom Cup with the way it has been marketed and, also, with its level of professionalism.
He told varsitycup.co.za: "It has definitely brought back support to university rugby and, more importantly, it's giving students something to do on a Monday night that which we never had."
As a big supporter of the tournament, he would like to see the three-times champion Maties being pushed hard for the title this year - as they are, at present.
"There is enough talent this year to put pressure on Maties and crowning a new a champion would bring new dynamics to the Varsity Cup," he concluded.
Brenden admitted to missing the freedom (and disposable cash) regular students have, but is currently doing a post-grad at the University of Pretoria (Tuks).
He has, however, assured varsitycup.co.za that he has not jumped ship - he will still raise the UJ flag!
