Davids shows his hand
FNB UWC coach Deon Davids has named his team for the opening Varsity Shield fixture against FNB UKZN at the UWC Sport Stadium on Monday, January 31.
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) team will want to capitalise on home advantage when they take on a team that Davids admits they know very little about in Bellville.
"The focus has got to be on doing what we want to do as well as possible," he revealed to varsitycup.co.za.
There are a number of quality players in the UWC starting line-up. Lock Juan Paul Kellerman has experience of Varsity Cup rugby, having played for NMMU last year.
He will be joined in a solid tight five by his captain, tighthead prop Carlo Jacobs, and loosehead Denzel Riddles who represented Western Province in the Vodacom Cup in 2009 and 2010.
Former Boland Vodacom Cup scrumhalf Denzil Willemse will look to spark the backline with his halfback partner Charl van Vollenhoven as UWC look to stamp their authority early on in this new competition.
Monday's match will get underway at 5pm, with a delayed broadcast on SuperSport at 7pm.
