Wits face tough examination
FNB Wits are the only University in South Africa who will still be writing exams next week so their team will be depleted for their opening match at the USSA Week in Wellington against Varsity Cup runners-up FNB Tuks.
Wits head coach Andrew Royle told varsitycup.co.za that he will have about half of the Varsity Shield side that lost out to FNB CUT in the final this year at his disposal in Wellington next week.
He commented: "We will be taking about 14 youngsters down with us and it will be a good opportunity to see what they have got and if they are able to step up to that level."
Academics are prioritised at Wits and there will be a few players flying down to Wellington on Wednesday after they have finished their exams, but they will miss the game against Tuks on Monday. However, Royle was in no mood for complaining.
He said: There is no place for sulking or whinging, the guys who are there will have to gets in Tuks' faces and it will give us a great indication of which of them have got what it takes to play Varsity Shield rugby next season."
