FNB WSU changing lives in East London

While the action on the field has been fierce and competitive, off the field the eight participating teams in the 2023 Varsity Shield competition are getting the chance to showcase their involvement in making a difference in the lives of their communities with the #ShowUs campaign.
While the action on the field has been fierce and competitive, off the field the eight participating teams in the 2023 Varsity Shield competition are getting the chance to showcase their involvement in making a difference in the lives of their communities with the #ShowUs campaign.
FNB WSU partnered with Ebenezer Majombozi High School for a rugby coaching clinic and an upgrade to the school’s rugby equipment. The team also hosted a workshop aimed at educating pupils about the importance of staying in school and how getting a good education is the gateway to a successful career. The players interacted with the learners and discussed some of the social ills surrounding the community to provide them with a platform to express themselves.
WSU captain Awonke Sondishe says it was a great feeling to be welcomed to the school like champions by the enthusiastic learners, almost like they’ve already won the 2023 competition.
Former WSU captain and now coach Phumlani Blaauw says changing lives starts with changing minds and planting seeds whose harvest will benefit the whole nation is very important. He added that most of the WSU team members are from the same neighbourhood and understand the challenges young people in the community face, they are therefore excited to give back and make a difference.
Varsity Cup is also calling on fans to take on the challenge and #ShowUs how you are choosing to lead the way to change in South Africa. Tag us in your social media posts and #ShowUs what you have done to make a positive impact in your community.
