The eight participating teams in the 2023 FNB Varsity Shield competition are getting the chance to showcase their involvement in making a difference in the lives of their communities with the #ShowUs campaign.   

 FNB UWC has taken it a step further and is thinking out of the box.  Club manager Clement Trout believes they have to focus on the long game and making an impact not only on the sports field but also in the lives of every member of the UWC sports team.  

"Our strategy at UWC Rugby is developing women in sport and creating opportunities but also preparing them for when those opportunities present themselves.  "UWC Sport over the past few years has been one of the pioneers in university sport when it comes to developing and promoting women in sport.

Specifically, at UWC Rugby, we have focused our energy and resources on developing and providing opportunities. This includes creating capacity-building programs for women to pursue a career in sports. The aim is to produce top-quality female professionals within the sports environment that can take up senior or specialist positions.  

"UWC Rugby currently has seven females that hold specialist positions. All of them have post-grad academic qualifications and professional qualifications including coaching levels while also being registered with professional bodies."
