Running Commentary

FNB CUT Young Guns gave a strong performance in the first half (trailing by 11 – 14 at halftime), but couldn't withstand a second half blitzkrieg by the young FNB-Tuks which saw the visitors record an emphatic 47-23 win in Bloemfontein.

UP-Tuks Young Guns scored seven tries, proving why they are one of the big favourites to reach the FNB Young Guns final again this year. Centre AJ Johnson scored the first and the last tries for the Stripe Generation while Renako Brynard, Raynard Roets, Siya Tyulu, Brendon Katzke and Clyde Lewis also crossed the goal line.

Lewis also converted six of the tries.

The CUT discipline let them down in the first half, with multiple penalties being conceded - and the referee ran out of patience shortly before half-time and sent flanker Danie van der Merwe to the Akfoeklstoel .

The home team's wing Tsepo Malumane ran in two tries, while Johannes de Jager also scored a try. Flyhalf Kyle Scholtemeyer, meanwhile, contributed two penalties and a conversion.

UP-Tuks should take a lot of confidence from this match, while CUT did have some great moments to build on for the rest of the season.
