The FNB Emeris Comets Varsity Cup squad took part in the Varsity Cup Show Us Campaign at Briardene Primary School in Briardene recently where they handed over equipment to the school.

The Varsity Cup Show Us Campaign encourages Varsity Cup and Varsity Shield teams to make a meaningful difference within their communities. Through outreach initiatives, teams are given the opportunity to support causes close to their hearts and showcase the positive impact that sport can have beyond the field.

The campaign highlights the responsibility student-athletes have to inspire, uplift, and contribute to building stronger communities.

As part of today’s initiative, the Emeris Comets donated soccer equipment to Briardene Primary School’s first team. The school, which serves an underprivileged community, is passionate about football, and the donation will assist learners in continuing to grow and develop their love for the sport.

The visit was made even more special by the long-standing relationship between Emeris and Briardene Primary School. The support given to the school forms part of an ongoing partnership through Emeris Cares that has been working closely with the school through various charity initiatives over the years.

Comets Squad vice-captain Abande Mthembu thanked the school for warmly welcoming the team and reflected on the importance of the relationship between Emeris and Briardene Primary.

“We would like to thank Briardene Primary School for welcoming us so warmly today. This school has been part of the Emeris family for many years through the various initiatives and projects we have shared together. It means a lot to us to continue giving back and to strengthen that relationship.

“At Emeris, we stand for hard work, discipline, respect, and always striving to better ourselves and those around us. As a club, we want to show that success is not only about what happens on the field, but also about how we impact our communities.

“We want to encourage all the learners to take their education seriously because it can open so many doors and create opportunities for their future. At the same time, getting involved in sport is just as important. Sport teaches teamwork, confidence, and discipline, while helping to keep both the body and mind healthy.”

The day was filled with fun sporting activities and plenty of smiles as the learners spent time with the Emeris Comets players. It was a memorable occasion for everyone involved and a fitting way for the FNB Emeris Varsity Cup squad to give back to the community through the Varsity Cup Show Us Campaign.
