The countdown to the 2026 FNB Varsity Cup and FNB Varsity Shield season is officially underway and on Saturday, 7 February, Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront will transform into a hub of rugby, hype, and fan energy for the national launch of the year’s most anticipated student rugby tournaments!

The question on everyone’s lips, “Who’s NXT?”  will come alive at the launch where this seasons captains, mascots and even some former stars will step onto the stage asking fans to spot the next rising star, the next game changer, the next campus hero.

From the first cheer to the last whistle of the event, every moment will set the tone for the season ahead. SuperSport MCs will host the live show, keeping the energy high while connecting fans to every entrance, interaction, and surprise. Captains and mascots will make their way through the crowd, handing out giveaways, leading dance-offs and creating memorable moments that fans can capture and share.

Cheer squads will amplify the atmosphere, turning the Waterfront into a stadium-like celebration. Mascots will rotate through the crowd with dedicated handlers, making sure everyone enjoys the fun safely.

The national launch is only the first chapter. Each participating university will host its own regional launch, bringing the excitement closer to campus so keep an eye on social channels for dates and locations so you don’t miss your chance to be part of the action.
